Snakes Fall in Fayetteville

The Columbus Cottonmouths fell into an early 4-0 hole and couldn't work their way out as they fell 9-4 to the FireAntz Tuesday night in Fayetteville.

Fayetteville got on the board less than a minute into the game and quickly made it a 2-0 lead at 2;49 of the first period. Just under four minutes later, Rob Sich added a third goal and at 10:53, he gave the FireAntz a 4-0 lead just 11 minutes into the contest.

Sam Bowles got the Snakes on the board with a powerplay goal assisted by Jesse Cole and Kyle Lundale at 12:21. Fayetteville added a late goal in the first, sending the Snakes into the locker room with a 5-1 deficit after the first period. The Snakes outshot the FireAntz 18-12 in the opening period.

The Snakes started a comeback with a pair of second period goals by Jesse Cole and Ryan McCarthy to cut the lead to 5-3. Steve Cooke gave the 'Antz a 6-3 lead heading into the final period.

Kyle Lundale picked up his third point of the night on a goal assisted by Tommy McMonagle and Sam Bowles. The FireAntz added three third-period goals giving them the 9-4 victory.

The Snakes outshot the FireAntz 48-35, but fall to 13-16-5 on the season. The face the FireAntz at home Thursday, Feb. 4. The Cottonmouths are asking fans to please donate an slightly worn shoes which will be sent to help earthquake victims in Haiti. $2 draft beer and $1 hotdogs will be available for Dollar Days, and it's also Georgia Lottery Night. The first 500 fans, 18+, will receive a scratch off ticket.

Saturday will be our biennial Legends game, featuring over 30 former Snakes! The Legends game will be played at 6 p.m.. Gates open at 5:30. Legends players will be available for autographs on the concourse from the beginning of the game until the start of the 2nd period. Legends jerseys will be auctioned through a silent auction at the Fan Activities Center throughout the game. The Snakes jerseys will be auctioned on the ice, immediately following the game. Both current Snakes and Legends will be in commemorative USA jerseys, honoring the 30th anniversary of the United States' Miracle on Ice at the 1980 Olympics at Lake Placid.
