on Mar 24, 2012

After a pair of road wins this weekend, the Cottonmouths completed a weekend sweep with a 4-1 victory over the regular-season champion Augusta RiverHawks Saturday night.

A powerplay goal by Orrin Hergott gave the Snakes a 1-0 lead and Mitch Wall followed that up eight minutes later, giving the Snakes a 2-0 lead after the first period.

Just 52 seconds into the second period, Levi Lind put the Snakes up 3-0. Augusta got on the board at 2:30 of the third, but a short-handed breakaway goal by Dave Cianfrini gave the Snakes a three-goal cushion and a 4-1 victory.

Ian Vigier stopped 35 of 36 shots.  The Snakes clinched 2nd place with the victory and will face the Louisiana Ice Gators in round 1 of the playoffs. Game 1 will be in Louisiana on Tuesday, game 2 will be at the Snake Pit on Thursday, March 29 at 7:30 and a decisive game 3 of the series, if necessary, will be at the Snake Pit Sunday, April 1 at 4 pm.
