SNAKES PREPARE FOR SPHL FINALS

The Columbus Cottonmouths are set to compete for their third franchise championship this week. It will be the team's first trip to the SPHL finals since 2005. The Snakes won the CHL Levin's Cup League Championship in 1998. Seven years later, they were crowned 2005 SPHL President's Cup Champions. Another seven years later, the second-seeded Snakes will face the fourth-seeded Pensacola Ice Flyers in a best-of-three series with the winner being crowned the 2012 SPHL champions.

Game 1 of the series is at the Columbus Civic Center this Thursday, April 12 at 7:30 pm. Fans with playoff packages will need to bring the ticket labeled game 3 for this game. Rally towels, sponsored by PTAP, Wolf Muffler and State Farm Agent Connie Wilkes, will be given to the first 1000 fans through the gates.

Game 2 of the series will be in Pensacola Saturday, April 14 at 8:05 ET. Fans wishing to travel to Pensacola and order tickets in advance can call the Snakes office. A block of tickets has been set aside for Cottonmouths fans but space is very limited. Like all away games, Saturday's game will be shown at Loco's Grill and Pub on 13th Street.

A decisive game 3, if necessary, would be at the Columbus Civic Center Sunday, April 15 at 4 pm. For this game, fans with playoff packages would use ticket labeled game 4.

The Columbus Cottonmouths are 4-0 in post-season play, sweeping both their first and second round opponents, the Louisiana Ice Gators and Huntsville Havoc. Greg Beller leads the Snakes in post-season play with four goals and four assists, while Sam Bowles has recorded five goals and one assist in four games. Ian Vigier has a stellar 1.20 GAA and .957 save percentage. He has allowed just five goals in four games.

The Ice Flyers, also 4-0 in post-season play, are led by goaltender Steve Christie whose goals against average is 0.50. Pensacola's playoff offense is led by Chris Wilson with a goal and four assists.

In the regular season, the Snakes and Ice Flyers went 4-4 in eight meetings between the two teams, with the Snakes winning the last two games against Pensacola.
