Players Blog6/25/2009 :: Boom Boom's Road Trip HomeJerome 'Boom Boom' Bechard's trip home to Canada... Head coach Jerome 'Boom Boom' Bechard left Columbus at 6:30 p.m. yesterday on a 1900+ mile journey with his two daughters to Regina, Saskatchewan on his annual summer visit back home. Bechard and his girls reached Nashville Wednesday night and stopped for the night at a Motel 8, the only lodging he could find. As the journey continued Thursday morning, Kylie has already watched several movies, including Twilight, while Alex is reading Eclipse, the third Twilight novel. The trio has traveled 550 miles as of 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, and are an hour outside of St. Louis, MO Only 1300 miles to go! Safe travels, Boom Boom! 02/2009 :: Thoughts from Defenseman Andrew DwyerWith only 8 games remaining on the schedule, things are certainly getting interesting in the SPHL. Not playing the last few months has really given me an opportunity to see how much this team has changed throughout the course of the season. Boom Boom has made several roster moves this year that seem to be paying off as we try to hang onto the 4th and final playoff spot. We have shown a lot of progress in recent weeks and the line combinations and defensive pairings are seemingly all working well together and scoring some goals. I think it is important to remember, particularly in our league, that it isn't how you start the season, or even where you are midway, but it's where you finish that people remember. Our team has had its fair share of ups and downs this season but is hoping to build on our strong play as of late and secure a playoff berth and long post season run. There is still plenty of hockey to be played this year, and now with the addition on the blue line of the single most dominant force to play D in the SPHL, Craig "the Chief" Stahl, things are looking up. 01/2009 :: Thoughts from Defenseman Will BarlowHey y'all!!! What a whirlwind of a season it has been so far- and things are really beginning to heat up like a piece of sizzling bacon!!! We have started to come together as a team at the perfect point of the season and are looking forward to an exciting playoff run that will look something like the Toronto Blue Jays back in '92. My most memorable moments so far this season have been the many antics on the road which have left me rolling around on the floor in uncontrollable laughter. Some fans only see how dead serious we are on the ice and don't see the lighter side outside the rink. One moment in particular was especially hilarious: We had just arrived in Knoxville after a long trip from Fayetteville and were ready to catch some serious Z's in preparation for the next game. The Chief Crag Stahl was sitting in the lobby waiting for his room when he began to doze off. When he finally started to sleep I found a sharpie and wrote on his forehead "I'm an Idiot." Tim "The Toolman" Green also smeared mustard all over his beard which made him resemble Big Bird from Sesame Street. Craig woke up and went to bed without even noticing that he looked like a darn fool!!!! The next day he still had all the stuff on his face for morning skate. Upon seeing him Coach Boom Boom Bechard said: "Hey idiot! You look like that Big Bird from Sesame Street!!" Needless to say we all had a hearty chuckle and then got back to work. |
